Carly on GENERAL HOSPITAL — Everything You Need To Know

Fans often worry about the worst when Carly puts herself in jeopardy because she has been through a lot on GENERAL HOSPITAL. However, it will take a lot to permanently get rid of Carly! You don’t think we’re real? She has endured a great deal in her colorful history! The character, played by Sarah Joy Brown, made her debut back in 1996. The actress stayed with the soap until 2001, when Tamara Braun was cast in her place. For a brief period in 2005, Jennifer Bransford played the role before it was replaced with Laura Wright, who is currently the Carly on GH.

Carly enrolled in GH’s nursing school upon initially coming to Port Charles in an attempt to be nearer to Bobbie Spencer, her biological mother. However, Carly rebelled against her mother’s rejection by enticing her husband, Tony Jones! Carly, who was once close friends with Bobbie, ended up fighting with Tony, having an affair with A.J. Quartermaine, and becoming pregnant. They gave the child the name Michael after she persuaded Jason Morgan to take parental rights. Unfortunately, Carly battled postpartum depression; she didn’t recover until she and Bobbie ultimately laid down their differences in the middle of a horrific snowstorm. Bobbie didn’t accept Carly’s confession of her true identity until Virginia Benson, her adopted mother, corroborated it.

Carly shot Michael after Tony abducted him in order to shield him from the risky lifestyle that Jason and Sonny led. She committed a felony after pretending to be insane in order to escape going to jail. After Jason freed her, Robin Scorpio revealed Michael’s true fatherhood. Although Jason gave Michael all of his rights, he continued to be involved in his life. Carly misinterpreted Jason’s consoling Elizabeth Webber during her grief over Lucky Spencer’s alleged death and had an affair with Sonny. Enraged by their betrayal, Jason temporarily departed the town.

Following her night with Sonny, Carly became pregnant once more, but she miscarried in an altercation with A.J. In September 2000, she and Sonny tied the knot after becoming close over their loss. However, he divorced Carly after she attempted to compel him to leave the mob. Until she found him having sex with his lawyer, Alexis Davis, she felt that they may still reconcile! Carly being thought to be dead following an automobile accident further complicated matters. But when she did come back, Carly and Sonny had been married again.

Carly being thought to be dead following an automobile accident further complicated matters. But when she did come back, Carly and Sonny had been married again.

After that, Carly began dating Alcazar; however, Michael was abducted and thought to have died. She also learned that Reese Marshall, Sonny’s new girlfriend, was really Carly Roberts, her best friend from before she passed away, whose name she had adopted! Carly’s nervous breakdown and marriage to Alcazar preceded her admission to a mental health facility due to the stress. Following her recovery, Carly got divorced from Alcazar and started a company that operated the Metro Court Hotel with Jasper Jacks. The two fell in love, but before they could get married, Carly had to get remarried to Sonny in order to keep from testifying against him.

In the end, Carly and Jax got married, and she gave birth to Josslyn, their daughter. In an attempt to kidnap Josslyn, Claudia Zacchara held Carly captive, but Michael killed her. Michael was sentenced to prison despite Carly, Sonny, and Jason’s best efforts to hide the crime. Carly could have put drugs on Jax to gain custody of Joss, but it was too much when Sonny planned to crash his plane! (Fortunately, Jax lived.) Morgan was sent to military school by an irate Carly in order to shield him from Sonny.

After a brief romance with Johnny Zacchara, Carly started dating Todd Manning. However, it collapsed upon discovering that he was involved in the plan to swap Jason’s son for his stillborn child. After a while, she became confused with Franco and even stood by him when it became out he was Jason’s long-lost twin. While Morgan’s elopement with Kiki wasn’t insane, Carly’s situation took a turn for the worst when he began having affairs with Ava Jerome, her mother! Carly and Franco found a tape that proved Ava killed Connie Falconeri and Sonny killed A.J. Carly became closer to Sonny by keeping the secret, and they started dating even though she was engaged to Franco. After discovering the truth, Franco bided his time until their wedding day to surprise Carly by disclosing not just their liaison but also Sonny’s involvement in A.J.’s death!

Throughout his trial and incarceration, Carly supported Sonny, and upon his release, she assisted him in gaining custody of Avery, his daughter with Ava. Just hours before the wedding, Sonny was shot and rendered temporarily paralyzed, so Ava took the little girl instead of him. In an attempt to strengthen their custody fight, Carly wed Sonny while he was still in the hospital. She was astonished, as was the rest of Port Charles, to find that John Doe was actually Jason, resurrected from the dead with a new face, but she was even more shocked to see the true Jason emerge, still wearing his original face, and disclose the shocking truth about the switch!

Carly was terribly saddened when a car bomb killed Morgan. When Ava switched Morgan’s bipolar medication, she and Sonny confronted her and threatened to hold her accountable. Sonny even made another attempt to leave the mob, but ultimately Carly and Sonny realized that they are stronger together than they are apart.

When Carly discovered that Nelle Benson—the daughter of her adoptive father, Frank Benson—had staged her seduction of Sonny as part of a scheme to have her destroyed, she was taken aback. Things took a different turn after Nelle became pregnant, despite appearing to turn over a fresh leaf and reignite her romance with Michael. Nelle started to manipulate Carly by tormenting her with visions of Morgan. Additionally, Nelle accused Carly of pushing her when she tumbled down the stairs at her baby shower. Diane urged Carly to claim insanity once more in order to escape going to prison, and she was transferred to Ferncliff.

Carly was kept waiting for the truth to come to light when she received a call from an enigmatic patient in the adjacent hospital room. This patient turned out to be Ryan Chamberlain, who had set up his inevitable escape by posing as Kevin Collins, his twin. As the serial killer goes on the rampage across Port Charles while posing as Kevin, Carly finds herself mixed up with Ryan even after leaving Ferncliff and celebrating Nelle’s sentencing. But he prioritized Carly as his target since she was coming too close to the truth!

Carly was shocked to find out she was expecting, and Sonny was concerned about her health because they had been told the pregnancy was extremely risky. She was abandoned for dead in the snow at Niagara Falls after being abducted by Ryan due to her inability to keep out of trouble! Fortunately, she and the child made it through the experience alive. However, things took a turn for the worst when Sonny and Carly discovered their child would be born with spina bifida. Then, to add to Wright’s actual injury, Carly not only broke her foot in an accident but also went into early delivery! Donna was Sonny and Carly’s daughter when she was welcomed into the family.

Jax’s return to Port Charles and Carly learning that he was collaborating with a very much alive Nikolas Cassadine had an effect on Sonny and Carly’s marriage. They got into conflict over her keeping this secret from Sonny, but in the end she told her husband the truth. Then, just as their organization was starting to come under attack, Gladys Corbin, Sonny’s relative, attempted to insert herself into the family, giving Carly even more cause for concern! Carly’s life was saved after a bloody gunfight by Brando Corbin, who revealed out to be Gladys’s presumed-dead son. Carly remained suspicious of the newcomers and the evil Cyrus Renault, who broke out of prison and blended into Port Charles society, even though Sonny welcomed him into the family.

Carly remained silent about what actually happened to her after a fight with Nelle caused her to tumble off a cliff and die. Carly also remained silent about the fact that the murdered woman was Nina Reeves’ long-lost daughter, even after Avery discovered Nelle’s half-heart pendant in the woods! When the truth eventually surfaced, Nina was enraged with Carly for handling Sonny’s disappearance as well. Following the declaration of her husband’s death, Carly received a call from Nina, who wanted to inform her that he was still alive. However, Carly forbade Nina from speaking to Wiley and instead advised her to avoid him!

Carly stepped up to take over the Corinthos family business in Sonny’s absence as Cyrus tried to take control, setting up the kidnapping and safekeeping of Cyrus’ mother, Florence Grey. After Cyrus was eventually brought to jail, Carly and Jason made the decision to show unity by getting married because the Novak Family, led by Vincent Novak, was keen to seize power! Their wedding was an emotional event since Carly eventually admitted that she had true feelings for Jason and he reciprocated, despite the fact that it had initially been a business arrangement to unite the Corinthos clan.

Their wedding was an emotional event since Carly eventually admitted that she had true feelings for Jason and he reciprocated, despite the fact that it had initially been a business arrangement to unite the Corinthos clan.

Carly hesitantly agreed to let it go when Sonny asked her to so they could all move on. She and Nina, who she seemed to be running into everywhere in town, were still at odds. Carly was devastated to learn that Jason was once more thought to be dead. When Sonny and Nina’s connection was made public during the evidence, the hearing took an unexpected turn, even though she had been expecting Nina to go to jail for keeping Sonny away from his family. Feeling crushed, Carly yelled at Sonny for not coming clean with her and claimed he was still in love with Nina.

Carly was stunned to find Sonny in bed with Nina when he surprised her with a romantic dinner on The Haunted Star because she arrived so late that he mistook her for someone else! Sonny pleaded for another opportunity, but Carly ended their marriage and scheduled a consultation with a divorce attorney. Harmony Miller drugged Carly and hidden her in her car after discovering damning evidence, but Alexis was there to save her. Harmony revealed to Carly on her deathbed that Nina was Willow Tait’s biological mother when she was struck by a car! Given the hostility between Willow and Nina, Carly decided to keep the information private even after a DNA test verified this.

Carly sold her portion of Metro Court in order to purchase equity prior to the Aurora/ELQ merger, defying their advice because she wanted to support Drew and Michael. However, Carly was left without a means of regaining ownership of her property when Valentin blocked the merger. She refused the assistance of everyone, particularly after Nina purchased her half with the goal of returning it to her as a gesture of goodwill. Her bond with Drew grew, and while she was hesitant to pursue things further to avoid jeopardizing their friendship, a kiss they had at the Quartermaine picnic had a profound effect on her.

Carly found herself back in her former city of Jacksonville, Florida, when her flight to Aruba was rerouted to Jacksonville, FL. Reese Marshall’s mother, Peyton Honeycutt, confronted Carly, accusing her of being responsible for her daughter’s death. Together with Bobbie, Drew took a plane to join her and extend his support. Choosing to adopt the Spencer name, Carly chose to put her past behind her. Drew cautioned them that despite their decision to date, they had to keep it discreet as Ned had threatened to report Carly for insider trading. Carly subtly obstructed Drew’s quest for the truth while Willow looked for her biological mother, but she later changed her mind after finding out that Willow had leukemia and required a bone marrow transplant. In addition, she had to be honest with Nina about the DNA test; although Carly was forgiven by Willow for keeping the information a secret, Nina wasn’t as understanding.

Drew and Carly made up, but he cautioned her against hiding anything from him in the future. While Carly was being questioned by the SEC during Michael and Willow’s wedding reception, Drew was in another city working with a team to foil Victor Cassadine’s nefarious scheme. They planned to gather information about Tracy in order to intimidate him into ending the insider trading probe, believing that Ned was the one who had turned them in when he returned. When Carly found out that Michael had been spying on Sonny with Dex Heller and had disposed of the flash drive containing the data he had given her, she was taken aback… Drew bore the brunt of the SEC’s charges, and Carly was taken aback when he received a three-year sentence in Pentonville.

Carly had no backup funds after having to pay a sizable fee, but Bobbie saved the day by allowing her to take ownership of Kelly’s. She also instructed Diane to see to it that Drew was released from prison, despite the lawyer’s cautions that this would not be easy. When he was placed in solitary confinement for his own safety, she became even more worried. Fortunately, it was soon discovered that the corrupt judge who had convicted Drew had done so, and in order to keep it a secret, he consented to commute his sentence. Drew’s return to Carly pleased her.

Carly turned down Nina’s offer to buy back her portion of the Metro Court. Carly made the wise decision to reject a charming newcomer named Brennan when he approached her at Kelly’s; after all, even though he was the head of the WSB, he was shortly jailed for a variety of criminal offenses!

Carly was devastated to learn that Bobbie had died peacefully in her sleep when 2024 got underway. Even worse, Nina paid her and Drew a visit and revealed that it was she who had reported them to the SEC! Following Bobbie’s burial, Carly assisted Felicia in resolving Bobbie’s outstanding matters and saved an asylum applicant. She also made the decision to call Kelly’s “Bobbie’s.” While Carly was disappointed that Michael had been aware of Nina for some time, she also accepted his silence. She reluctantly consented when Drew let Carly take over as editor-in-chief after firing Nina from Crimson. Carly had a great debut issue of the magazine, despite her struggles with it.

Nevertheless, she gave up when Drew wouldn’t stop harassing Nina. Carly pleaded with Drew to let go of the past and move on.

Carly was stunned when Jason showed up at her house and she helped tend to his bullet wound and hide him from the cops when they showed up. She refused to believe the accusations that Jason was the one who was after Sonny and who had shot Dante, and Drew called it quits with her, realizing she would always put Jason first.
