What Happened to Traci on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS

Since Traci Abbott no longer makes frequent appearances on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, some viewers who are more recent may not be aware of her turbulent past in Genoa City! In 1982, Beth Maitland created the character of John Abbot’s youngest daughter. She continued to perform the part frequently until 1993, when she won a Daytime Emmy Award in 1985 for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Traci started to return to Y&R regularly in 2001. She would often show up for holidays or during family emergencies, and these days, she is becoming more and more frequent.

When Traci was younger, she battled bulimia and was very insecure and envious of her beautiful elder sister, Ashley Abbott. Traci fell deeply in love with Danny Romalotti in the 1980s, and she joined his band as a singer to compete for his attention from Lauren Fenmore, her rival. Traci, who was self-conscious about her weight, developed a diet pill addiction. After learning that Danny and Lauren were engaged, she used drugs, smashed her car, and almost passed out.

Following her recovery, Traci started dating her college lecturer, Tim Sullivan. However, she became suicidal after discovering he was having an affair with a different student; Christine Blair’s prompt intervention prevented her death. Danny wed Traci to provide a family for Tim’s unborn child once she became aware that she was expecting. However, the soon-to-be mother miscarried after being shoved down a flight of stairs by a jealous Patty. After divorcing Danny, Traci started dating Brad Carlton, the groundskeeper.

Traci and Brad got married right away, but she departed Genoa City to finish her school because Brad prioritized his burgeoning business career over her. Brad had an affair with Lauren while she was gone, but they reconciled and Traci became pregnant. Tragically, Lisa Mansfield, Brad’s insane ex-wife, abducted Brad and led to Traci’s second miscarriage. After Traci’s older sister Ashley won Brad in the end, she resorted to writing and produced two critically acclaimed novels.

Traci later reconciled with Brad, and the two welcomed their daughter, Colleen Carlton, into the world. Sadly, the child wasn’t enough to save their marriage, and later that year they got divorced. After moving to New York City with Colleen, Traci had a romantic relationship with her publisher, Steve Connelly, whom she married in 1993.

Traci returned home in later years for significant family events, such her father John Abbott’s stroke and death. Traci was present when Brad drowned and later on, when Colleen, their daughter, passed away, consenting to donate her heart to a sick Victor Newman. She also supported her brother Jack Abbott, who subsequently wed Nikki, after he was shot by Patty and became disabled. Additionally, Traci admitted to Abby and Jack that she and Steve were growing apart. As a result, the pair filed for divorce in 2014.

Traci is still the pillar of the Abbott family, always there to provide support and encouragement to her loved ones throughout difficult times. And there’s more than enough drama in the lives of all those family members for her to be occupied! Additionally, Traci discovered herself advising Cane Ashby, who was having difficulty mending his fence with his divorced wife, Lily. She was motivated to write a new novel by the drama, but it also made her and Cane feel something, which she graciously denied.

Then, as Dina Mergeron approached the end of her life and was suffering from Alzheimer’s, Traci assisted in taking care of her sick mother. Lily and Billy also offered her a position running Chancellor Media’s publishing division. As Jack and Traci were taking care of Dina, they learned that she had once had an emerald jewelry called the “teardrop of love.” Just before they all had to say goodbye to Dina forever, they managed to find the necklace and Jack had the emerald cut up to make jewelry for each Abbott sister.

Traci was worried about her brother and wanted to go with Jack when he refused to go after he received odd texts tempting him to Los Angeles. Then, to her amazement, he informed her that not only did his son Keemo pass away, but he also had a granddaughter named Allie! Ashley was dubious of Allie’s intentions, while Traci was more accepting of the newest Abbott. She did, however, express her fury along with the rest of the family when Jack later disclosed that Diane Jenkins, who had long before staged her death, had been the one to entice him to Los Angeles! Traci was there to support Kyle by providing a shoulder to cry on when Jack took him back to town to tell everyone about his mother’s “resurrection.”

Even as Diane and Jack got closer, Traci remained hesitant about her and still stood by her brother. She also assisted Nikki in organizing a grand masquerade party to commemorate the bicentennial of Genoa City. Traci’s agent pushed her to find a means to put an end to the internal strife within the Abbott family, which was in disarray in the spring of 2023. Calling a family meeting, Traci attempted to bring some common sense to the group by asking them to consider what John would have wanted them all to do. Later, Traci and Billy objected with Jack’s intention to remove Ashley from the board of directors. And Traci was the sole guest in the courtroom when Jack and Diane tied the knot. Traci forewarned Jack not to rip the family apart once more with his battle with Tucker as Ashley wed Tucker.

Traci joyfully proposed a toast and wished Jack and Diane a happy life at their formal wedding party. However, she persisted in cautioning Jack to use caution in his conflict with Tucker. Traci stood by Ashley both when her sister insisted that Tucker had abused her and when Ashley eventually returned home following their honeymoon breakup. Traci accompanied Ashley when she made the decision to return to the Parisian cafe where the altercation had taken place; however, the employees corroborated Tucker’s account rather than Ashley’s.Ashley and Jack started to worry a great deal about Ashley as she grew more and more agitated by the issue and unsure of what to think. Traci offered Ashley a shoulder to cry on.
