Home And Away's Jamaica Vaughan Lands Major Drama Show Role

Jamaica Vaughan, the former star of Home and Away, has secured a big part in the upcoming Spartacus sequel series on Starz.

Alongside a star-studded cast that includes Graham McTavish from Outlander and Nick Tarabay, who is reprising his role as Ashur from the original series, the actor, who previously played Naomi Stevens on the Australian serial opera, has been cast in Spartacus: House of Ashur (via Deadline).

Jordi Webber, a fellow former cast member of Home and Away, Ivana Baquero, Claudia Black, India Shaw-Smith, Leigh Gill, and Tenika Davis complete the major cast.

Eleven years after the original gladiator drama concluded after three seasons (broadcast as Blood and Sand (2010), Vengeance (2012), and War of the Damned (2013)) and the prequel chapter Gods of the Arena, Steven S. DeKnight, the creator of Spartacus, comes back as showrunner and executive producer.

“History-bending, erotic, thrilling, roller-coaster experience that builds on everything that made the original series a colossal hit,” is how Starz has characterized the upcoming chapter.

The summary goes on, saying, “The show asks what would have happened if Ashur—played by the beloved Nick Tarabay—had not perished on Mount Vesuvius at the conclusion of Spartacus: Vengeance? And what if, in exchange for helping the Romans kill Spartacus and place him in charge of the gladiator school that was once controlled by Batiatus?

McTavish has been cast as Korris, a former gladiator who “won his freedom in the arena and is now Ashur’s Doctore, training the gladiators in Ashur’s Ludus,” while Vaughan is expected to play Hilara, a “young, elevated house slave” who is enamored with Ashur.
Webber will portray “brash and headstrong” gladiator Tarchon, Davis will play female gladiator Achillia, and Baquero will play Messia, a house slave in love with Hilara.

Lastly, Black’s persona Gill has been cast as Satyrus, the leader of a competing gladiatorial club, while Shaw-Smith plays Cossutia’s daughter Viridia. Cossutia is a politician who is desperate to keep Ashur in his place.
