Home and Away Spoilers – Irene to be scammed by new arrival Bronte

Next week, Irene (Lynne McGranger) will finally return home, but she won’t be alone.

Four weeks ago, Irene was last seen heading into the city for her yearly physical. Since she hasn’t been seen since, it’s likely that she had to make her way to the hospital waiting room. Fortunately, it appears she met a new friend while she was there.

The restaurant patrons discover that Marilyn (Emily Symons) is being rather giving when they arrive for their customary drinks prior to Irene’s return.

As part of a “promotion,” Roo (Georgie Parker) receives a free croissant; Bree (Juliet Godwin) receives a gratis Danish pastry; and Alf (Ray Meagher), on his way to Merimbula for his most recent visit with wife Martha (Belinda Giblin), is lavished with an entire box of sweet delights.

Marilyn believes that Alf won’t be returning for a long time when Roo remarks that it’s unfortunate that he will miss Irene’s homecoming. So when Roo says she’ll be home that very afternoon, it comes as a bit of a shock.

After Alf moves out of the way, Marilyn shows Roo a large stack of boxes in the diner storeroom and admits to her that she made a big mistake and doesn’t know how to tell Irene.

This sounds a lot like the previous one, except this time there are no Stunning Organics products in sight.

Since a film crew landed on Summer Bay a few weeks ago while Irene was away, the cafe has become a little crazy. Marilyn was smart enough to place multiple meal orders, but she’s in a bind since the production was abruptly halted due to the passing of star performer Stevie Marlow (Catherine Van-Davies).

Marilyn has to get rid of the extra inventory or the diner’s profitability would plummet.

When James Stewart and Matt Evans arrive, Roo immediately gets to work adding burgers to the specialties menu. Justin then suggests that they have a communal BBQ at the beach.

Marilyn is appreciative that Roo, Justin, and Theo took care of everything, but she still needs to tell Irene about the directives.

At last, Irene brings Bronte (Stefanie Caccamo), the woman she met in the waiting room of the hospital, home. Bronte introduces her to Harper (Jessica Redmayne) and tells her that she had been quite ill at the hospital and had confided everything to Irene.

Later, Irene tells Harper that Bronte is gravely ill; she has an autoimmune disease of some kind and must deal with it alone, without the help of her family. Irene believed she could benefit from the sea air.

Later, after taking Bronte to the diner, Irene impresses her with her business arrangement.

She is soon introduced to Marilyn, who appears to be worried. Marilyn reassures Irene that the diner is back to normal after experiencing a spike in business in the previous weeks.

Bronte declines Irene’s offer of something on the house because she doesn’t feel good and wants nothing to eat. She is starting to feel anxious about her test results.

However, Bronte makes a covert phone call as she leaves for some fresh air, disclosing to the person on the other end that Irene is a pushover and has her own house and business. Bronte is a fraudster!

Bronte asks Harper what’s going on as she sees the BBQ on her way to the beach. Harper clarifies that their purpose is merely to assist the diner.

Harper informs her that Summer Bay is exactly like that. “The community truly helps out when someone is in need.”

Bronte finds it to be melodious.

Irene quickly locates the bills for the extra food back at the diner and questions Marilyn.

Though she acknowledges that she purchased extra in order to accommodate the film team, she reassures Irene that it’s all being used up right now.

Irene reassures Marilyn that she just needed to be honest with her and there was no need to worry. If she’s learned anything from meeting Bronte, it’s to not worry about the little things.

Bronte reappears in the diner almost exactly on time, her face brimming with tears. Bronte tells Irene that she has received her test results and has been informed that there is nothing more that can be done because she is dying.

Later, Bronte puts up a strong front as she vows to remove herself from Irene’s hair, explaining that she has only been granted a maximum of six months.

But Irene isn’t having any of it, assuring her that she doesn’t have to go through this alone and is free to remain for as long as she needs.

Naturally, Bronte offers to help out where she can by contributing money for bills and rent, but Irene continues to refuse. After experiencing a “dizzy spell,” Bronte escalates the situation by taking a quick tumble down the stairs. She then goes in for the kill, stating emphatically that the doctor is unable to help her “here.”
