Star of Home and Away Penny McNamee shared a moving post on Instagram about her experiences with bullying.
Amidst the recent conversations on bullying in the media, the actor, who portrayed Tori Morgan on the Australian serial opera from 2016 until 2021 and had a guest appearance earlier this year, said she “felt compelled to write something”.

“A group of females at school severely bullied me when I was fourteen years old. It was cunning and unrelenting,” she started.
McNamee went on, “I lost all sense of joy and cried every day for six months.” Thank God my folks didn’t brush it off. They gave it their whole attention.
They talked to the school, paid attention to what I had to say, and attempted to provide me with strategies to help, but when nothing improved, they removed me from the building. Although it seemed significant and extreme, it was the best course of action.”
The former soap opera actress claimed to have “thrived” at her new school and made “amazing friends” with whom she is still in contact.
She also said that the school changed her life’s course, claiming that it was there that she met her husband and that it was there that she landed the main role in the school musical, which eventually launched her performance career.
A crucial piece of advice for parents was included by McNamee as she wrapped off her post: “I know that bullying can be destructive to your kids, so don’t be afraid to pull them out of school.” In many ways, I genuinely believe it saved my life.”
