Kirby and Mali argue over his chance to have an art gallery represent him. She finds it incomprehensible that he is unwilling to do it. Rose goes downstairs to attempt to convince Kirby to help, but he dismisses her and leaves for home.
Kirby responds to Xander’s question about why she cares so much by saying that he shouldn’t miss this chance since it might be what Mali is meant to do with his life. For Xander, something about this resonates.

Mali is ultimately forced to confess his reluctance to meet the man from the gallery after Kirby ambushes him at home. Mali worries that he could be anticipating a “real” artist. She contends that anyone with the ability to paint like Mali is a true artist and that his work need not always be inspired by suffering. When he finally gets around, he phones the gallery guy and sets up a meeting for the following week.
