The actor behind Sonny Corinthos shared a heartfelt throwback photo as his longtime General Hospital co-star prepared to attend the Daytime Emmy Awards.
General Hospital star Maurice Benard, who plays Sonny Corinthos, looked back through his collection of photos from the ABC soap ahead of the Daytime Emmy Awards. He also showed his support for longtime co-star Steve Burton, who portrays Jason Morgan.
A Look Back at the Past
In a throwback picture shared on Instagram, Maurice gave fans a glimpse of just how young the cast members looked back then.

Remembering Leslie Charleson
According to Daytime Confidential, when Steve Burton received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor at the 2026 Daytime Emmy Awards, he revealed that he wanted to dedicate the moment to the late Leslie Charleson, best known for playing Monica Quartermaine.
Many General Hospital viewers remember Leslie for portraying Monica Quartermaine for almost 50 years.
Before the Daytime Emmys, Steve Burton spoke with Bradford Anderson and Giovanni Mazza about his Emmy submission. During the conversation, he explained why he decided not to include footage from Monica’s funeral.
Although his performance in the funeral scenes was deeply emotional, Steve left the footage out of his submission reel because the camera work featured too many cutaways and group shots instead of focusing directly on his acting.
As a result, despite delivering a powerful emotional performance, he felt the scenes were not suitable for his Emmy reel.
Jason and Monica’s Special Bond
Jason was the biological son of Alan Quartermaine and Susan Moore. Following Susan’s murder, Monica eventually adopted him and brought him up as a member of the Quartermaine family.
However, after Jason suffered a serious car accident in 1995, he experienced brain damage and amnesia. This led him to take the Morgan surname and distance himself from the Quartermaines, eventually becoming a mob enforcer.
For many years, Jason and Monica had a strained relationship, but they gradually managed to rebuild their bond.
Shortly before Monica’s death, Jason returned to live at the Quartermaine mansion. Following her passing, he delivered a heartfelt tribute to her during her memorial service.
Fans Show Steve Burton Their Love
Steve Burton ultimately lost the Outstanding Lead Actor award to Scott Clifton. However, Maurice Benard remained supportive, just as he had promised, while Genie Francis received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Although Steve did not take home the award on October 30, Maurice’s post became another opportunity for fans to celebrate his remarkable career on the ABC soap.
