He’s thrust back into forefront of the ITV soap when his character Roy Cropper is arrested for murder
Star of Coronation Street David Neilson has opened up about his most recent plot, which has seen him thrown back into the spotlight of the ITV soap opera as Roy Cropper, his character, is charged with murder.
As long-running fans of the program are aware, Roy has put the needs of others above his own and has assisted a great number of troubled teens and young adults. However, when Lauren Bolton’s disappearance becomes a murder investigation, his association with her is going to come back to haunt him in later scenes.
Following her disappearance a few weeks ago, Lauren’s door was unexpectedly visited on Valentine’s Day. Although the identity of the guest remained a mystery to the audience, her expression was filled with concern and her heart seemed to be sinking at the sight of him.
Later, Lauren’s love interest Bobby found her flat unlocked, with Lauren nowhere to be seen. He’s since been doing what he can to try and find her and the suspicion about Roy begins when Bobby finds out that blood stains have been found on the curtains at Lauren’s flat and informs DS Swain about the discovery – and that Roy had been deep cleaning the flat – who is quick to investigate.
In typical Roy fashion, his honesty doesn’t help him when faced with DS Swain. In the episode of the ITV soap set to air on Friday (March 15) he is taken in for questioning by the police. When news of his arrest hits the internet he finds himself a virtual prisoner in his own home, as social media sleuths and vigilantes become intrigued by the case and the much-loved friend and neighbour’s alleged involvement.
When Roy encounters DS Swain, his candor doesn’t work in his favor. He is brought in by the police to be questioned in the Friday, March 15th episode of the ITV soap opera. He finds himself virtually imprisoned in his own house when word of his detention spreads online, with social media detectives and vigilantes drawn to the case and the neighbor’s purported participation.
Roy’s closest and dearest advise him to keep a low profile after he decides to attend a vigil for the missing teenager. Roy is heckled by a baying mob who are photographing them on his phone.
Even at Roys Rolls, he is vulnerable to charges; he is stuck in the café with two goons, one of whom being Lauren’s father and the other one being one of Griff Reynolds’ political extreme band, Reece’s heavies, who demand to know what he did with Lauren.

Soap legend David responded, “It’s a compliment but at the same time a responsibility,” when asked how he felt about this narrative, which will run over the spring and summer, in a recent interview. Although I enjoy spending time with my family and seeing my grandchildren when Roy is playing small roles in scenes with other people, you never know when things will suddenly pick up in terms of workload, so I’m ready for that.
“You know the whole part when you get a part in a play,” he went on. You have no idea what will happen to your character in this situation. I like to wait to see how things work out after receiving the scripts because I don’t know the complete narrative. The fact that it has gone back 29 years to 1995, the year Roy initially arrived, is something I admire about it.
It brings back memories of Roy Cropper’s early career, when people found him weird and mistrustful of his actions. And everything that has transpired in the past, even the kidnapping of their foster child, will be used against him. That’s everything that makes this plot intriguing.”

However, what is David’s true attitude about Roy? “I respect the character a lot, I think he’s made a difference and I put a lot into it,” he said. “As ‘Creepy Cropper,’ he entered. When I initially started watching the show, I was in York or somewhere similar, and I overheard a couple conversing when one of them said, “There’s that weirdo from Coronation Street.” I was immediately taken aback.
“Then, naturally, he changed over time, and now that people appear to like him, I adore him. I believe that people are drawn to him because of his life struggle, which includes this. With this one, he’s kind of in the dog house. But because it has occurred to him once more, he is at a loss for options.
“He can’t do anything else, so he keeps doing what he believes to be right. That’s the issue right now. I believe he would, if he could. He is not like that, despite what everyone else around him is telling him to do—behave like others and become more of what they would consider “normal.” That is not how he can be. He wouldn’t be in this predicament otherwise, and things will only get worse.”
