Christmas is often a dramatic and eventful time for the residents of Coronation Street.
Coronation Street fans believe they have uncovered a huge Christmas storyline on the cobbles, and it could potentially feature the return of a much-loved Weatherfield legend.
Christmas is rarely a peaceful period in the ITV soap, with plenty of dramatic events unfolding over the festive season. Over the years, viewers have seen numerous major storylines, including the births of several local characters such as David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), as well as heartbreaking deaths.
This Christmas looks set to be just as dramatic, with soap fans convinced that a former cobbles favourite could make a sensational comeback as part of a major twist involving Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien).
As viewers will remember, Sarah is currently behind bars after killing Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) in self-defence. She killed Theo in April after attacking him with a metal pole while they were on scaffolding, causing him to fall over the edge and plunge to the ground below.
Sarah then turned to her former lover and friend Gary Windass (Mikey North), asking him to help cover up the crime. Although her police officer boyfriend Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) tried to help her avoid facing the consequences, Sarah was eventually arrested on suspicion of Theo’s murder.
She has since been jailed and is currently waiting for her trial. However, fans are now speculating that Sarah could be released from prison around Christmas, potentially tying her return to a major festive storyline and the comeback of a much-lov
“What do you think is going to happen on Corrie this Christmas?” one fan asked on a Coronation Street Facebook fan page.
Another viewer shared their theory, writing: “I think Sarah could be released from prison by then.”
A third fan suggested that Sarah’s mum, Gail Platt (Helen Worth), might also make an unexpected return, saying: “I agree, maybe Gail will come back.”
Another fan backed the theory, replying: “Yes, that’s exactly what I thought!”
In June 2024, it was announced that Helen Worth, who played Gail, would be leaving the soap. Helen said she felt it was the “perfect time” to step away from what she described as “the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world”.
Gail’s exit storyline focused on her marriage to Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson).
