Coronation Street favourite Sue Cleaver confessed she struggled to come to terms with her newfound fame after she landed the role of Eileen Grimshaw on Coronation Street in 2000

After a “terrifying” fan interaction, a Coronation Street star has opened up about the terrifying time she “couldn’t walk down the street.”

When she was cast for the part of Eileen Grimshaw in the popular ITV soap opera, the celebrity first brought joy to our eyes in 2000. Having delighted audiences on screen for almost two decades, Sue Cleaver quickly became a devoted fan favorite.

But the actor’s journey hasn’t always been easy. The 60-year-old celebrity made an appearance on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch with Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer on Sunday, March 10.

She talked candidly about her early days of stardom when she initially joined the cast during her chat with the dynamic duo. “Your life changes the day after your first episode is broadcast,” Simon enquired.

“You’re not Sue Cleaver anymore, who could go about her life in peace; you’re Eileen now!” Sue promptly acknowledged his supposition and clarified that she wasn’t “ready” for her life to alter.

“I don’t think I was prepared,” she clarified. They do converse with you when you enter, after all. TV was a whole other universe when I first walked in. You were unable to stroll along the road.

The actress acknowledged that she struggled to accept the level of attention she was receiving and didn’t feel “comfortable with it.” “It was the bit that, honestly, I struggled with for a long time,” she continued.

It doesn’t make me feel at ease. It’s a very different world now, since many people aspire only to be famous. It took her some time to get used to being recognized by her fans, the soap opera siren continued.

“It’s still one I don’t fully get, so really watch what you ask for.” I’ll admit that when someone approached me in the beginning, I kind of froze. Tim then admitted that he blushed bright red the first time he was recognized in public.

The actress disclosed that she had a similar experience in her early years. “I was like, ‘What do you want, don’t speak to me, what do you want?!'” Sue recounted. It truly frightened me! It took some time, but alright.

Later on in the episode, Sue spoke about her new appearance in the stage production Sister Act: The Musical. The star insisted that she’s not permanently leaving the soap, but she will be taking a break from the cobbles to focus on her new role as Mother Superior in the hit musical.
