Coronation Street’s Matt Milburn reveals how soap star brother inspired his acting career

The star of Coronation Street, Matt Milburn, has disclosed that he started his acting career because of his brother, Greg Wood.

Last year, Milburn made a comeback to the ITV soap opera, taking on the character of Tommy Orpington, which he had created in 2016.

Wood carved up a career for himself by playing Trevor Royle on Hollyoaks and Rick Neelan on Corrie, respectively. Milburn acknowledged that he was motivated to pursue his brother’s route.

“My passion for acting was sparked by seeing my brother in his first college play,” Milburn said to TV Times. I thought, ‘I’d want to give that a go,’ after witnessing the subsequent rush of adrenaline through him. However, I never actually did.

“It was difficult for me to decide exactly what I wanted to do from my late teens to my early 20s. I believed I wanted to be a PE teacher, so I completed a BTEC in Sports Science. My first acting opportunity occurred when I was preparing to study sports journalism at university after completing my A-Levels.

Greg put my name in without telling me because he had a part in Brookside [as Terry Gibson] and was supposed to film a play for his friends at university. Patrick Marber named it Dealer’s Choice, and it revolves around poker.

It was the greatest buzz, and we recorded it at night in the basement! I got an audition for Hollyoaks [as Joe Spencer] around three weeks later; it was like going to college,” he said.

In their recent scenes together, Milburn’s Tommy has developed a strong bond with Tracy McDonald. The actor recently disclosed that the two are going to start having an affair within the next week.

“I didn’t exist. “It’s a little different for Tommy,” he made fun of it. After looking at the scripts, it simply became excited. I’ve already filmed a little portion of the plot, and it went incredibly well.
