Coronation Street's Tony Maudsley Says 'if It Ain't Broke' As He Makes Soap Future Announcement

The actor is currently known for playing George Shuttleworth in the ITV soap having made his debut in 2020

Tony Maudsley, a Coronation Street star, has been rejoicing since he announced he will be staying on the program. The actor made his acting debut in 2020 as Archie Shuttleworth’s son, and he is most remembered for his role as George Shuttleworth in the ITV serial opera.

After his father passed away, George took over Shuttleworth’s Independent Funeral Directors and moved to Weatherfield to start working with Preston’s Petals. Then, in January 2021, George and Gail Platt learned that Augustus and Fanny Page, their great-great grandparents, were also their grandparents.

Since then, Corrie viewers have watched George start dating Eileen Grimshaw, work with her son Todd at the undertakers, and move to the well-known street with his sister Glenda, played by Jodie Prenger.

After confirming on social media on Friday (March 15) that George’s contract has been renewed, Tony has now stated fans may anticipate seeing more of George.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, the soap opera star—who is also well-known for his role as Kenneth Du Beke in the ITV comedy Benidorm—shared: “Huzzah! I’m thrilled to be remaining on at @itvcorrie until at least July 2025, together with George. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” goes the saying.

And his supporters and admirers helped him celebrate the news right away. @welshjaci stated: “I’m very happy! You are outstanding! Dog will have a healthy diet!” Superb news, as @mikepriestley13 said in a comment. You do a great job portraying George, who is highly intelligent.” “Fantastic news, so well deserved, and so thrilled to see more of George xx,” tweeted @PatLovesTheatre.

@KerryTaylor75 replied: “Great news!! They are SO lucky to have you!!” @Margare72716432 posted: “Brilliant news Tony. I love watching George on Corrie.” @MissLauraHolmes added: “Congrats you deserve it, George is one of my favourite characters.”
