Jack James Ryan left his role as Jacob Hay on the ITV cobbles last year and has since landed himself a major role in a new series – with his co-stars quick to congratulate him
When a prominent Coronation Street performer secured a significant new gig away from the ITV cobbles, his fellow soap stars fully supported him.
The ITV soap opera Jacob Hay, played by Jack James Ryan from 2021 to 2023, is well-known for having turned his life around and had a romantic relationship with Amy Barlow. But since then, he’s been cast in the comedy-thriller Passenger on ITV as John Trowbridge.
The show centers on Chadder Vale, a tight-knit village that is plunged into disarray following a string of strange and unusual crimes. Jack portrays John, a bread factory worker who is in a relationship with Katie and who is struggling with his own issues, such as binge drinking and a tendency to make errors.
Jack’s Corrie co-stars congratulated him on his exciting job news on social media. Harriet Bibby, who plays Summer Spellman, said, “WHO’S READY?!” along with a row of hands-up emojis. “Can’t wait for this Jack,” Tony Maudsley, star of George Shuttleworth, said to him.

The series was also pushed by Amy Barlow’s actor Elle Mulvaney on X, where she wrote: “Passenger with our @JackJamesRyan on ITV1 and ITVX! [Popcorn emoji].” On his personal account, Jack gave the series’ introduction, wishing viewers a warm welcome and informing them that “#Passenger will soon be available on a tellly screen near you.”
I can’t express how thrilled I am to tell you about this. Happy to return to the box. Surrounded on this one by some genuinely incredible talent. Who is paying attention?

“It’s not set in any particular year in particular; the aesthetic has been deliberately heightened & stylized to aid our storytelling both literally and metaphorically,” Jack added in further detail about the new program. Imagine the ideas and look of Stranger Things blended with the northern gritty charm of Happy Valley. We are experimenting with genres.
This is by no means the actor’s first rodeo; prior to making his cobbles debut, Jack had roles in everything from episodes of Doctors and Casualty to the 2019 film Military Wives. In 2019, he even played Tyler in a single episode of rival serial opera Emmerdale.
In an interview with The Express, the actor cheekily revealed that a big Disney star was his first TV crush. “Hilary Duff, who portrayed Lizzie McGuire on the Disney Channel,” he remarked. I was blown away by girls like her and Raven-Symoné. They performed, danced, and sang. They were unimaginably transcendent.

However, he believes that Naked Attraction on Channel 4 is “crazy” and wants it to end. When asked which show he would “put out of its misery,” Jack replied, “It hooks you in if it’s on in the background.” But the celebrity enjoys daytime television and is a big fan of Bargain Hunt.
“I’ve always been interested in antiques,” he remarked. I would have been an antique trader if I hadn’t been an actor. One thing on my bucket list is to compete on Bargain Hunt. Could you swing it my way?
