Fans of the soap opera Emmerdale are getting ready to say goodbye to David Metcalfe, who has been a part of it for almost two decades.
Emmerdale’s David Metcalfe, played by Matthew Wolfenden, has wrapped up filming after first appearing on the ITV soap 17 years ago.
This week, the actor shared a poster for his upcoming project, Elf the Musical, on Instagram.
In a few days, he will trade the Yorkshire Dales for the theater.
It’s all becoming very real, Matthew wrote. We have two more days at Emmerdale before we begin rehearsals for this incredible show.
The musical, which is based on the popular Will Ferrell film, will feature the soap opera star as Buddy the Elf.
David’s departure from the soap opera has been the subject of viewers’ speculation, with the actor teasering a connection to his ex Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins).
On the ITV soap opera, Victoria has been cozying up to David’s stepson Jacob Hay (Joe Warren-Plant), but they are keeping it a secret from the other villagers.
They were on the verge of kissing last month when David stepped in. Will David leave the Dales if he finds out about their covert relationship?
“That relationship with Jacob and Victoria is a huge reason why David eventually leaves the village,” Matthew told Metro.co.uk.
“There are going to be a few tears and a few fights, and that’s all I can say!”
David would be very uncomfortable about their relationship because Jacob has always looked up to David as a father figure and used to treat Victoria as his stepmother before the two split up.
