Happy Anniversary To GENERAL HOSPITAL — See The Changing Cast Through The Years

Since its April 1, 1963 inception, GENERAL HOSPITAL, the longest-running soap opera still in production, has experienced a significant number of cast changes. And in honor of its 61st anniversary, we invite you to reflect with us on how much has changed over time. and occasionally how they haven’t changed!

Fans have watched cherished characters come and go throughout the years. While some, like Tracy Quartermaine, leave Port Charles to live happily ever after (hopefully!), others, like Stone Cates, suffer horrible ends and return occasionally. Due to GH’s popularity, high-profile guest stars have been attracted, including Elizabeth Taylor as Helena Cassadine, James Franco as Franco, and Roseanne Barr as Jennifer Smith. Additionally, a few actors, including Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky), John Stamos (ex-Blackie), and Demi Moore (ex-Jackie), rose to popularity in Hollywood following their time on the soap opera.

Fans tune in every day to watch the adored elderly performers who have lived in Port Charles for years. Stars like Maurice Benard (Sonny), Genie Francis (Laura), Leslie Charleson (Monica), and Kin Shriner (Scotty) have remained for fans to watch day in and day out even though cast members have come and gone over the years.
