Dana (Ally Harris) has been skating on thin ice as she’s worked to expose new housemate Bronte (Stefanie Caccamo) as a con woman, as everyone else in Summer Bay falls for her charms.
Bronte’s supposed terminal illness has seen Irene take her into her home, and been the cause of a crowdfunding campaign to raise $100,000 for a medical trial in Canada.

Bronte had quickly jumped on the bandwagon when she heard a customer was suing the diner following benzine poisoning, claiming to have also been affected, with Irene encouraging her to also sue in order to add to her funds.
The plan backfired when Irene learned that the insurance company were unwilling to pay out, and whilst Bronte and the other customer dropped the lawsuits, Irene offered to gift $50k out of her own pocket instead.

Diner co-owner Leah (Ada Nicodemou) later came on board, with the ladies splitting the donation into $25k each, much to Dana’s concern.
Confronting Bronte once again, suggesting that she was faking the whole thing, Bronte didn’t even try to deny it, instead coldly telling her to prove it.

With Irene, sister Harper (Jessica Redmayne) and boyfriend Xander (Luke Van Os) all refusing to entertain Dana’s concerns, Dana enlisted Bree (Juliet Godwin) to help her do some digging at the hospital.
A statewide search for Bronte’s medical records proved that no such person existed.

Hearing about Dana’s meddling, Bronte finally decided it was time to take drastic action, and after putting in a call to accomplice Chase (Joshua Mehmet), the pair kidnapped Dana from the Beach House.
Next week, Bronte has to think on her feet as people begin to question Dana’s whereabouts. Xander is particularly worried when he hears that Dana has gone away without telling anyone.

Concerns for Xander start to arise when Bronte says she answered a call from Dana at the Beach House, who said she was on a silent retreat and was not permitted to use her phone.
“Dana? Quiet? When Xander tells John (Shane Withington) where Dana is supposedly, John questions it because he thinks it sounds really strange.

Since hardly one uses landlines these days, Xander asks how Dana could be able to use the one at the Beach House.
In fact, Dana’s trying to be anything but silent, locked in a shipping container in the middle of the bush!

Bronte is nearing the finish line in the meantime. Leah’s portion of the funds has been sent into the crowdfunding account, and Irene’s will follow in a day or two. Bronte is adamant that she will persevere for a few more hours despite Chase’s advice to give up and go.
When the funding finally does materialize, Leah notes that they could raise the entire $100,000 in less than a week, which makes Bronte think she should stay even longer.

As the three start to piece together the evidence, they realize that Dana may have been telling the truth about Bronte’s deceit after overhearing John and Xander conversing. Bree then confesses that she had assisted Dana in her search for Bronte’s medical records.
They take their suspicions to Rose (Kirsty Marillier), who agrees to talk to Bronte. Heading to the Beach House with Constable Hendricks, Rose questions Bronte on Dana’s whereabouts, pointing out she’ll be able to look up the phone records, and also queries the lack of medical records.

Bronte is sure it must be a mistake, but as Rose explains she’s happy to wait as Bronte finds her own copies, Bronte feigns a dizzy spell.
Rose reluctantly leaves, telling Bronte to bring her paperwork down to the station asap. However, when John and Xander then see Bronte heading off somewhere in Irene’s car, they decide to follow.

Back at the container, Dana devises a scheme to get out by stuffing some old bags with straw and making it appear as though she is dozing off.
Dana leaps out from behind the door and strikes Chase over the head with a jerry can as he approaches the sacks, allowing her to escape the container.

Following Bronte’s path on a dirt track, John and Xander see Chase living up to his name as he chases after Dana.
When Bronte finds out that Chase has left the container empty, she is not impressed. The two decide to go in separate directions in order to locate Dana, who is hidden among the formal gardens.

Bronte tells Chase that they can’t let her go since Dana knows too much!
John and Xander hear Chase and Bronte calling for Dana as they get to the site. As Xander flees in pursuit, John phones Rose at the station.

When Dana sees Xander, she’s relieved, but Bronte and Chase soon find them. However, their threats are ineffective since they can hear the sirens of oncoming police cars.
Bronte and Chase run back to the car, but John stops them long enough for Rose and the other officers to arrive, at which point Bronte and Chase are taken into custody.

When Dana’s ordeal finally ends, she embraces John rather than Xander.
Dana is especially sour towards Xander back at the station, questioning why he didn’t believe her and bringing up the fact that he put his trust in a complete stranger rather than his own girlfriend.
Xander can only apologize, but is that suffice to win Dana over?

Irene is taken aback when Leah informs her that Bronte has been taken into custody and that Dana is safe. Bronte thinks for a time that Irene is coming to aid her when she gets at the station, but Irene soon starts to lash out.
As Bronte is taken to the cells, Irene yells, “You are a disgrace.” “You ought to feel ashamed of who you are.”

Nevertheless, Bronte flips the tables on Irene with a scathing comment.
“You seek a scapegoat?” She informs her. “Take responsibility for yourself. All I needed was an ignorant elderly woman who would believe me.then I came across you.
Irene is broken, and although Dana can forgive her, it doesn’t seem like Irene is ready to forgive herself for carelessly endangering her friends.
