Home and Away Spoilers – Cash makes a River Boy breakthrough

Next week, when the surfing gang turns to intimidation, Cash’s (Nicholas Cartwright) inquiry into the River Boys will continue to generate waves in Mangrove River.

After deciding to rejoin the police, Cash was able to secure a promotion to his previous position as Senior Constable at Mangrove River, which was formally the worst station in New South Wales and where his predecessor Franklin McGrath had recently been discovered dead after being dumped in the nearby dam.

The infamous River Boys welcomed Cash, but he soon discovered that it had taken on a far more intimate tone. Their leader showed out to be none other than Felicity (Jacqui Purvis), the new boyfriend of Cash’s sister Rory Templeton (Joshua Orpin).

Even though Ariadne Sgouros, Cash’s coworker Jo, is certain that Rory and the River Boys are to blame for McGrath’s demise, Flick hasn’t given up on Rory just yet.

In an attempt to uncover the truth, Cash has adopted the dangerous tactic of monitoring the River Boys—something his predecessor was doing prior to his untimely death.

The following week, as Cash reports for duty, Rory’s sidekick Dingo (JK Kazzi) and a sizable contingent of his allies surround his ute as it pulls into the station parking lot.

With the mob trailing behind, Cash steps out of the car and walks towards the station, unfazed.

Dingo stands in his way as he approaches the door, pointing out that since Cash has been observing them, they are now observing him.

“Is that upsetting you?” Cash queries. “Do you have anything to conceal?”

Without responding, Dingo gives Cash one last teasing glance before stepping aside to let him enter.

Rory calls Dingo to cancel the boys’ plans while the boys are still in the parking lot because he is bringing Flick back to their hangout and wants to make sure she is well received.

Cash and Jo observe the River Boys part, observing that Rory is noticeably missing. Jo remarks that their message is quite plain, pointing out that this is what happens when you oppose the River Boys.

But Cash has no intention of turning off the monitoring, and a short while later, he returns to his observing position and is saddened to see Flick and Rory arrive at the house.

Soon after Rory lets them know that Cash is around, they go over to greet him and give him a beer.

Flick declines to get in the car with Cash so he may drive her home. By now Cash has all he needs and heads back to the station with an extensive list of license plates from the cars entering and leaving the River Boy hangout. Cash gives Jo the order to run the numbers through the database despite her reservations.

Flick becomes enraged when Cash comes home and kicks Rory out. When Cash informs her about the investigation and remarks that Rory’s relationship with the town’s new police officer’s sister is purely coincidence, Flick swiftly corrects him, pointing out that Rory and her were already dating before he had even started working there.

Flick prepares her belongings and issues a threat to Cash: she will move out if Rory isn’t permitted into the house! Later, Cash grudgingly informs Flick that if she wants to keep seeing Rory, he won’t get in the way—but only if she goes back to her house.

Cash acknowledges Flick’s argument that he cannot control who comes to the house since they both pay the same rent, and at Flick’s request, he even makes Rory apologize.

Cash finds Rory waiting for him outside when he gets back to work. Rory uses Flick as leverage, telling Cash that he only needs to say one word to get Flick to move in with him, which is the last thing Cash would desire. Rory asks Cash to cease watching their apartment.

But when Jo tells Cash she has something to show him inside, it looks like Cash might be about to win big.

Jo was able to collect film from a wildlife camera located in the national park, despite the fact that there was no CCTV footage available from the area surrounding the crime site.

Before Franklin’s body was discovered, an automobile belonging to a man named David Lewis was seen early in the morning. Cash is unaware of the name until Jo identifies it as Dingo!

Elsewhere, Irene (Lynne McGranger) is at her lowest point as she continues to drink in secret after falling off the wagon following last week’s Bronte (Stefanie Caccamo) drama.

Leah (Ada Nicodemou) and Marilyn (Emily Symons), who both feel that Irene let all of her friends down, ask whether they can help Irene learn anything constructive from the experience.

In order for Leah and Irene to provide their perspectives, she recommends that they set up an interview with the local newspaper, Coastal News. Leah approaches Irene with the suggestion after finding they would be interested in publishing the story, emphasizing how it might save others from falling for similar con games.

Irene acknowledges this, but it’s obvious that she’s terrified of the concept in secret.

Irene arrives late to work the following morning and declares that she is not interested in completing the interview. She claims that she has been humiliated enough without having it documented in the newspaper.

After seeing Irene lose her temper with Leah, John (Shane Withington) tells Irene that he experienced the same thing with Susie McAllister (Bridie Carter). John had been inspired to confront the world once more by Irene.

Irene tells John she’ll take a drive to give it some thought. But she has a bottle of whisky with her when she comes back and parked on the boat ramp at the end of the Flat Beach parking lot.

Irene returns to the diner prepared for the interview, stunning Leah and Marilyn with her abrupt change of heart. She has mustered a few swills of Dutch courage.

When Fleur (Nikita Waldron), a reporter for Coastal News, shows up, Irene has no intention of holding back.

Irene resolves to write the ideal clickbait headline for the Coastal News—”Irene Roberts, Born Loser, Perfect Victim”—while making scathing remarks about Fleur and their journalistic standards while intoxicated.

As Leah and John frantically attempt to break the news, Fleur gobbles it all up, eager to land her first top page feature. Irene promises to shut her door on anyone else who shows up with a terminal condition, which effectively closes the deal.

Irene says, “Make my humiliation public, girly.” “Because I’m deserving of nothing more.”

With that, Irene charges outside. Leah begs Fleur not to publish the piece, but she assures her that it will be a “balanced article.”

Irene quickly pushes away John’s attempts to assist her, yelling at him to get a life and quit holding on to her.

John calls to see how Irene is doing back at the Beach House. She is sitting by herself on the steps, drinking.

When John walks in, Irene is crouched over the shattered glass, having just dropped her bottle of whisky on the floor in shock at his presence.

When John realizes that his best buddy is in grave danger, Irene sobs. Will she accept his assistance?
