Home and Away Spoilers – Cash sets his sights on the River Boys

Following his suspension and demotion to Constable, Cash (Nicholas Cartwright) made the decision to return to the police force after leaving earlier this year due to his actions in defending Dana (Ally Harris) against dishonest detective Detective Will Madden (Jonny Pavlovsky).

Senseing that his superiors were using him as a scapegoat to avoid facing their own emotions, Cash told them to shut up.

But when well-known actor Stevie Marlow (Catherine Van-Davies), who had hired Cash to shield her from her stalker Sydney Wickham (Joshua McElroy), was shot and killed on the beach, his career shift into personal security ended tragically.

Cash was shocked to be offered his previous position of Senior Constable after reapplying to the force, but there was a significant catch. The previous Senior Constable had recently been killed at Mangrove River, which is formally regarded as the worst police station in New South Wales, where he would be posted.

Naturally, Cash’s fiancée Eden (Stephanie Panozzo) didn’t think it was a good idea, but after researching his predecessor’s case, he felt he couldn’t turn down the possibility of obtaining justice.

Cash took the job, and at the end of the week, he drove into Mangrove River wearing his uniform again.

Fun Fact: Despite the fact that it is currently a reconstructed prop and filming site, viewers with strong memories would have recognized the well-known Mangrove River sign.

It was actually none other than Dean Thompson (Patrick O’Connor) who applied the grafitti that put a “-2” to the population almost six years ago.

Resolved to never go back, he and Colby (Tim Franklin) have just emptied their family home of the last belongings belonging to Dean’s mother Karen (Georgia Adamson).

While everything is going on, Felicity, Cash’s sister (Jacqui Purvis), has started a fast-moving romantic relationship with Rory (Joshua Orpin), whom viewers are already aware is a member of the local River Boy gang.

When Mali (Kyle Shilling) went to face the Allen siblings, he summoned his old friend and River Boy, Dean, for help. Rory and his sidekick Dingo (JK Kazzi) rushed to his rescue.

Before they made the decision to go together for a few days, Flick and Rory had not been dating for more than a week. Cash had only met Rory once, and that was when he came and went from Flick’s bedroom.

When they got back, Cash tried to talk to Rory, but Flick pulled him out of the house during the interrogation, so Cash didn’t know who he really was.

Next week, when Cash shows up at the Mangrove River police station, it’s none other than Constable Joanne Devlin (Ariadne Sgouros) who greets him.

In 2022, Jo made her brief but unforgettable debut when Dean went to the police station expecting to see an imprisoned Flick. To his astonishment, Jo, an old friend, was working behind the counter.

Even though Jo was obviously unhappy to see Dean again, she consented to allow him to see Flick in exchange for Dean leaving sooner.

When Jo reappeared in 2023, she gave Rose (Kirsty Marillier) an update on the attack that had damaged her brother Xander (Luke Van Os).

Jo is back on home ground, which is lucky for us but unfortunate for her. She walks Cash around the dilapidated police station, which has tarpaulin covering the roof and notes that it was firebombed but is probably not going to be fixed.

After receiving information on a potential replacement for Senior Constable Franklin McGrath, who passed away, Rory and Dingo decide to investigate the station in order to learn more about the next officer.

They barely see Cash go inside, but they feel it’s only right to greet the new cop in town in typical River Boy style.

Jo acquaints Cash with the workings of the town; the River Boys are aware that the station has very limited resources. When Cash goes back outside and discovers that his car has been vandalized, her point is demonstrated.

Jo shows us a smug Rory and Dingo watching from the other side of the street, but when Rory and Cash make eye contact, their expressions blur together as they realize who the other is.

Cash drags Dingo and Rory inside to confront them about the damage to his car, but Jo points out that Cash needs to pick his battles carefully and that this will be a fruitless exercise.

Naturally, none of them admits to any wrongdoing, and nothing more can be done because there isn’t a functioning CCTV system on the property.

Cash grimaces and says Rory is dating his sister in response to Jo’s question about how he and Rory seem to know each other. Jo says, “My condolences,” and then informs him that the River Boys are the main suspects in McGrath’s death.

During his lunch break, Cash begs Flick to split up with Rory and heads out to the bay. Except for the fact that Cash discloses Rory’s gang membership, Flick believes Cash is just being an overbearing big brother.

When Flick meets with Rory, she wants him to offer her one solid reason not to dump him right away.

Although the River guys aren’t perfect and Cash has a few convictions under his belt, Rory tells Flick that Cash is only viewing the world through the eyes of a police officer and that the guys are the reason he is still alive.

Rory continues by describing his difficult childhood and how becoming a member of the River Boy family has saved him.

Seeming to be very certain that he has won Flick over, Rory can’t resist going to see Cash at the station one again. Flick would never hang around with someone like Cash, Cash retorts, to which Rory responds, “They’ll just have to see.”

As it turns out, despite her misgivings—especially since Cash has never taken her relationship so seriously as to ask her to break up with someone—Flick is determined to convince Cash and Eden that they don’t know Rory as well as she does.

They had better get used to the fact that she will still be seeing him.

When they get back to the station, Cash instructs Jo to pull up every document they have on the River Boys, including the ones pertaining to McGrath’s slaying.

At this time, Jo drops another bombshell on Cash. Since Rory leads the River Boys, they can be certain that he is fully involved in their actions if they are the ones to blame for McGrath’s death.

Has Flick just committed a risky error?
