According to Home and Away, Dean Thompson and Ziggy Astoni will make an unexpected comeback to television in 2019.
The program has officially revealed that when Home and Away returns to television in the new year, viewers’ favorites Sophie Dillman and Patrick O’Connor will play Ziggy Astoni and Dean Thompson, respectively.

Filming for their sequences is scheduled for later in October in Queensland’s tropical north, in the Whitsunday Region. The reason we get to see the two again is a mystery to the producers, who only say that it’s “a top-secret storyline that will play out at a yet to be announced date, early 2025.”
Ziggy was portrayed by Sophie Dillman from 2017 to 2023. “It feels so good to be home,” Sophie exclaimed upon arriving back at Home and Away.

“I can’t wait for the action, and for fans to see this storyline play out,” said Patrick O’Connor, who debuted on the program in February 2018 and joined less than eight months after Sophie.
cherished pair In March 2023, Dean and Ziggy moved from Summer Bay to a remote area of northern Queensland in order to be nearer to Dean’s son Jai (River Jarvis) and his mother Amber (Maddy Jevic).
Dean’s sister Mackenzie (Emily Weir) had visited them off-screen after their departure. She told Dean, very apprehensively, that she had started dating Levi (Tristan Gorey), who had left his devoted wife Imogen (Georgia Blizzard) to be with her.

Mackenzie was afraid her impulsive brother would take offense if she ended a marriage with her new partner, but he surprised her by showing support.
Will Mackenzie be paying her brother and sister-in-law another visit on screen, or is there another reason why the two will be appearing on our screens again? Time will tell.

The publicity team for the show has stated that they would be providing additional details about Ziggy and Dean’s return to the program in the upcoming year.
After three years of telling Dean that he had a child he was unaware of, Dean’s ex-girlfriend Amber Simmons (Maddy Jevic) accepted a position in far north Queensland, which precipitated Dean and Ziggy’s 2023 departure.

While Willow Harris (Sarah Roberts) and Colby Thorne (Tim Franklin) were among their extended buddy group as they were growing up in Mangrove River, Amber always harbored affections for Dean, but the River Boy simply considered their relationship as casual.
After moving to Summer Bay, Dean put his past as a River Boy behind him. There, he met Ziggy and secured a stable career as an employee at Ben’s Boards, which he eventually bought.

After Shane Withington had a stroke in July 2020, Amber moved to Summer Bay to take care of him. Colby was the one who was most surprised to see Dean again after Amber had struck him in the face the last time they saw each other. Dean was shocked to see his former partner again.
A few weeks later, Amber finally admitted to Dean that she had been keeping a huge secret from him for several years: she became pregnant soon after Dean left Mangrove River and was now the mother of a five-year-old.

Ziggy and Dean finally split up after learning of the news, as Ziggy grew more and more envious of the intimate relationship Dean was developing with both Jai and Amber.
Their breakup made it possible for Dean to reunite with Amber, and Ziggy to start seeing Tane (Ethan Browne). But in time, Amber came to understand that Dean was still, and would always be, in love with Ziggy.

Even though Amber really wanted to be with Dean, she realized that their reunion was solely due to Jai’s presence, and they lacked the emotional bond that Dean and his ex-girlfriend Ziggy had.
Though Amber departed Summer Bay, she made a vow to Dean that he would always be involved in Jai’s life. As promised, Jai has since made several trips back.

When Dean and Ziggy did eventually get back together, they soon learned some very important news of their own: Ziggy was expecting a child.
Izzy Astoni-Thompson was born to Ziggy around the end of January 2023.
A few months later, things shifted when Amber got a job offer from Queensland, thousands of miles away.

Preparing for the possibility of a parental relationship based on distance, Dean prepared to bid farewell to Jai.
Dean realized he would only be able to visit his kid a few times a year due to his infant and the difficulties of traveling between Summer Bay and Queensland. That is, until Ziggy suggested that they move to Queensland as well.

Not only would Queensland be a convenient place for Dean to see his son whenever he wanted, but Ziggy’s sister Coco (Anna Cocquerel) had moved there a number of years prior.
Ziggy realized that having a baby girl to take care of now would make having a tight relationship with her sister useful.

With Ben’s approval, Dean moved fast to give newcomer Mali Hudson (Kyle Shilling), who had served as Dean’s off-screen board shaper for years, ownership of Ben’s Boards.
Ziggy and Dean bid farewell to their closest friends and packed up their lives to head to Queensland for their new life together. They also made one final trip to the beach, which had held great significance for them during their stay in the bay.

In their last scene, Dean and Ziggy had parked their surf club outside, and Irene (Lynne McGranger), Justin (James Stewart), Mac, Gabe (Akos Armont), and Mali were all waiting for them.
Mali gave him a framed copy of Dean and Ziggy’s coastal news front cover, which has been hanging in the board shop since they won the Summer Bay surf championship back in 2021, and made a vow to do Dean proud.
Speaking to TV Week as their last episodes aired, Patrick discussed his feelings while recording the last sequences.

“We drive off into the sunset in the last scene; it felt like a really nice way to say goodbye to them,” he disclosed. “It was such an emotional last day.”
“Up until my final moment, in which Dean was giving Mali the board shop, everything was normal. We wrapped up filming at around 4 p.m. I was so angry that I had to look away from the camera.
It appears that we will see the two again in early 2025, which is a little more than two years after their departure! Why? Everything will become clear in the coming year.
