This week marks the dramatic return of Violet Wilson (Jenny Platt) to Coronation Street. Violet Wilson is back to watch over her teenage son Dylan. Before her most recent stint on the cobbles, it might be helpful to have a brief refresher of her prior experience on the Street. She left Weatherfield back in 2008 and was last seen on screen in 2011.

Who is Violet in Coronation Street?
In October 2004, Violet makes her debut on Coronation Street as an old acquaintance of Sean Tully and a barmaid in the Rovers. She briefly dated Jason Grimshaw before entering into challenging relationships with Charlie Stubbs and Jamie Baldwin, Danny’s son and Mike’s grandson.
After these failed relationships, Violet and Sean, who were friends, got drunk and decided that they would have a child together if by the time they were thirty, they would both be unmarried and childless. But Violet felt that they should act right away, so this agreement became reality more quickly than anticipated.
When Sean learned that Violet intended to raise their son alone and planned to take legal action, there was drama during their pregnancy. Violet became pregnant with their son in 2007. After settling their disagreements, the couple welcomed Dylan into the world in February 2008, right there in the Rovers.

Why did Violet leave Coronation Street?
Only a few days after Dylan was born, Violet and her ex Jamie decided to go to London together, having reconciled while she was still pregnant.
Violet asked Jamie to marry her, stating that she preferred his name over Sean’s on the birth certificate. Sean learned about their plans from Violet’s sister, despite their best efforts to keep him in the dark, and he attempted to stop them from departing.
However, Violet and Jamie quickly left, taking Dylan with them, which grieved Sean. Violet flung her phone out the car window, severing all links and getting ready to start over in London when he subsequently called her.
But after a few years, Sean made contact and was eventually allowed to meet Dylan. In 2011, Violet made a second appearance on Corrie in a special Easter episode where Sean paid her and Dylan a visit in London, shortly after Violet had broken up with Jamie.
Violet hasn’t appeared on film after then, though she has been mentioned frequently since Sean arranged for visits to see Dylan. In contrast, Dylan spent a few months back on the show in 2020 while staying with his father before relocating permanently to Weatherfield in 2022.

Why is Violet back in Coronation Street?
Violet’s significant comeback aligns with the ongoing bullying narrative her now-adolescent son Dylan is a part of. Dad Sean was astonished to learn that Dylan had been making Liam Connor’s life miserable for the past few months by imitating Mason Radcliffe.
Dylan, who was sutured by Mason and discovered by the police to have a zombie knife in his bag, is today suffering the repercussions of the horrifying bullying. Dylan will face charges for the crime.
Violet had a right to know about the situation, Eileen pointed out, especially with Dylan’s court hearing this week. The teenager asserted, however, that he had already spoken to her and that she was in Ibiza and couldn’t make it to court.

In tonight’s episode (March 20), Dylan gets his court date, but afterward, he and Sean head home, where Dylan finds his mother with Eileen. Violet had called and found out that she was unaware of what had happened.
Violet’s homecoming was explained in February by a statement from Coronation Street, which stated: “In the coming months, Dylan will be facing the serious repercussions of his actions and will be needing the support of both his parents.”
Although Violet’s stay in Weatherfield will only be temporary, actress Jenny Platt is hoping that Violet will return to the program in the future.
She remarked, “I’ve never had the feeling that that’s it. I’d like to end that character’s life. I had a great experience playing Violet on Coronation Street, and I always thought she was a really nice character. She’s warm and has a heart, but she’s also made a lot of mistakes, so she’s never quite like one of us.”

“And, of course, I’d love to see what she could get up to if Dylan was getting into more trouble – and especially that idea of co-parenting with a non-romantic partner I find a really interesting one, and one that would be great to develop on screen,” she continued.
The actor who plays Sean, Antony Cotton, recently repeated this idea and said that Violet might have a long future.
“We shoot [with Jenny] for four weeks; after that, who knows? She may appear in a dozen episodes. I’m hoping we might see her again because this plot is going to continue, so long as everything goes smoothly and she enjoys it,” he remarked.
“If there’s more of this stuff and it gets more serious, one would imagine that we would perhaps see Violet again.”
