Coronation Street Confirms Owen Armstrong’s Return as Ian Puleston-Davies Reprises Role 16 Years After Debut

Gary Windass could be facing months in prison for helping Sarah Platt cover up Theo Silverton’s murder. However, jail might seem like the safest place for him when he discovers who is making a comeback to Weatherfield. More than 11 years after leaving Coronation Street, Owen Armstrong is returning to the cobbles, and he is far from pleased with the actions of his daughter’s former partner.
Determined to support Izzy Armstrong and his grandson Jake, Owen makes it clear that he holds Gary responsible for his family’s troubles. He also announces that he plans to move back in with them.
Actor Ian Puleston-Davies is set to return to screens in January, with filming for Owen’s dramatic comeback beginning next week. But what will his unexpected arrival mean for Gary and the future of his business?
Speaking about his return, Ian said: “I can’t wait to pick up where I left off 10 years ago! It’s brilliant to be back and to get stuck into a cracking storyline. Owen’s back and he’s still angry!”

Owen was last seen in Weatherfield in April 2015, when he revealed he was leaving after his relationship with Anna Windass fell apart and his business went under, partly due to Pat Phelan. He subsequently moved to Portugal before eventually settling in Scotland.
Since departing Coronation Street, actor Ian Puleston-Davies has appeared in several high-profile dramas, directed feature films and continued to build his successful career as a writer.
Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks welcomed Ian back to the show, saying: “We’re thrilled that Ian is back, and Owen brings a ton of drama. As he joins forces with an unlikely alliance, he wreaks havoc on the Street and his relationship with Gary is severely put to the test. Needless to say, there’s never a dull moment when Owen’s around.”

Owen Armstrong first appeared in 2010 as an ambitious builder who purchased the Builder’s Yard on Victoria Street to run his company, Owen Armstrong Construction. He employed Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) and later took on Izzy’s now ex-partner, Gary Windass.
In 2011, Owen began a relationship with Anna Windass and became a stepfather to her adopted daughter, Faye Windass (Ellie Leach). Their relationship remained relatively stable until 2013, when Owen took on a project for bankrupt builder Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre), investing £80,000 of his own money.
After Gary attacked Phelan with a plank of wood, Phelan began blackmailing Owen, forcing him to lose his investment. Phelan also slept with Anna before eventually releasing Owen from their contract.
The ordeal left Owen in serious financial difficulty. He was forced to sell the Builder’s Yard and declare bankruptcy, leaving him to take on whatever building jobs he could find.
Although Owen and Anna managed to get through the turmoil caused by Phelan, their relationship finally ended a year later. The pair split after Owen reacted furiously to discovering that Faye had become a mother at just 13 years old. Unable to see a future for himself in Weatherfield, Owen accepted a job offer from a friend in Aberdeen and decided to leave the cobbles behind.
