Soap Fans Face Disappointment as ITV Changes Tonight’s Schedule
Coronation Street fans have been dealt disappointing news, as the popular soap will not air on ITV tonight (Thursday, October 22). Instead, the channel will broadcast The Pride of Britain Awards 2026. But when will Corrie return, and when can viewers watch the next episode?
The latest change to ITV’s schedule means that both Coronation Street and Emmerdale will be absent from tonight’s line-up. However, fans won’t have to wait too long, as both soaps are set to return on Friday.
Here’s everything viewers need to know about when Coronation Street will be back on ITV and what to expect from the upcoming episode.

Is Coronation Street on ITV tonight?
No, Coronation Street will not be shown on ITV1 at its usual 8.30pm slot tonight. Emmerdale has also been removed from its regular 8pm broadcast.
This week, Coronation Street is scheduled to air on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings. Fans can also look forward to an additional episode on Sunday, October 25. There will be no Thursday episode because ITV1 and ITVX are broadcasting The Pride of Britain Awards 2026 from 8pm instead. Presented by Carol Vorderman and Ashley Banjo, the special ceremony honours the country’s unsung heroes.
The schedule change also affects streaming, meaning a new episode will not be available on ITVX or YouTube today. Episodes are normally released on both platforms from 7am each day, allowing viewers to watch ahead of the evening broadcast.
However, soap fans who want to catch up can still revisit previous episodes of Coronation Street on ITVX and YouTube whenever they need to watch any instalments they may have missed.

Soap Power Hour in 2026
In October 2024, Coronation Street introduced daily streaming, allowing fans to watch new episodes from 7am.
The move proved popular with viewers, and figures from the first quarter of 2025 revealed that ITVX had reached a record-breaking one billion streams in a single quarter for the first time. Coronation Street and Emmerdale had accumulated 124 million streams on ITVX during that year so far, while soap viewing figures had increased by 35% compared with the first quarter of 2024.
The schedule underwent another change in January 2026. Following the major Corriedale crossover episode, Coronation Street moved from three episodes a week to airing every weekday, although each instalment was shortened to just 30 minutes.
This created the much-discussed ‘soap power hour’, with Emmerdale airing first at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 8.30pm. Both soaps generally run from Monday to Friday, with new episodes continuing to become available on ITVX each morning at 7am.
