He rose to fame portraying Nick Tilsley on ITV’s Coronation Street.

Coronation Street star Adam Rickitt went from earning millions playing Nick Tilsley on the ITV soap to running a bar, where he took home just £12,000 last year. This amount is even below the UK’s minimum annual wage for 16 and 17-year-olds, which stands at £15,600 based on a 37.5-hour working week.
In a recent interview with The Times, Adam, who played Nick until 2004 before the role was later taken over by Ben Price, opened up about his earnings from the craft beer and artisan gin business he runs alongside his wife, Katy.
Adam and Katy revealed that they have “sunk everything” into their business, Dexter and Jones, based in Knutsford, Cheshire. Explaining his income, Adam said: “I took the personal allowance of about £12,000 and then we took dividends of £36,000 to stay within the basic tax band.”
During his time on Coronation Street, Adam reportedly earned around £3,500 a week for four episodes. He also made additional money through guest appearances at various events and clubs.
Over the years, he accumulated millions, but ultimately lost £5.5million to his father. Adam had lent him the money, but never received any of it back.
Speaking about what happened, Adam explained: “He was very much a spender. He would blow all his money on stupid things and not very sound investments despite earning £2m to £3m a year — and then he would come and borrow my money.
“I’m not angry because when I had money it didn’t make me happy.
“I’m happy now married to the love of my life, running this place and doing pop music again.”
Earlier this year, Adam also discussed his financial troubles during an appearance on Vanessa Feltz’s TV show.
He said: “If you Google ‘Adam Rickitt net worth’, it comes up with a figure, it’s not that figure because my dad stole all my money. And he did it three times.
“So, even though I was 18 years old and did Corrie and did the pop music and money was coming in, it kept just going to him, and he kept losing it.
“My dad was a very successful merchant banker, he was pulling in millions of pounds a year himself. But he was also a flaming alcoholic. I kept lending him money, he kept wasting it, but then he would make money.”

“Instead of giving me my money back, he would spend it on his friends. He never used it for his family or made any effort to repay me. As a result, we fell out for 15 years. We only got back in touch when he went from earning millions of pounds to having nothing, relying on a state pension and facing the repossession of his home because he had nothing left to show for himself.”
Adam first purchased his bar in 2019. According to its website, the venue offers an impressive selection of more than 800 craft beers, over 300 small-batch gins and upwards of 200 wines, alongside 10 rotating draft beers.
The website explains: “Our mission is always to offer the best beverages you won’t find elsewhere.
“When it comes to craft beer, we are constantly on the hunt. From securing one-off lines by the biggest names in brewing, to seeking out the start-ups breaking new ground.”
The bar’s gin selection places particular emphasis on small-scale distilleries that produce drinks naturally, without artificial flavourings. The aim is to find the ideal combination of botanicals to create a memorable taste experience.
