Felix Uff joined EastEnders earlier this year as Ryder Hawkins, leaving fans confused about the character’s actual age.

EastEnders viewers have been saying the same thing ever since actor Felix Uff joined the BBC soap as Ryder Hawkins earlier this year. The character is currently involved in a major storyline after coming out to his aunt, Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington), last week.

Ryder has been struggling to tell his family the truth about his sexuality, knowing that his father, Ned Hawkins (Jamie Bamber), would not approve. However, Nicola has stood by her nephew and encouraged him to open up to his mother, Gemma Hawkins (Patricia Potter).

Although Ryder’s age has not yet been revealed on screen, fans were left confused when his father began encouraging him to make something of his life.

Nicola has also referred to Ryder as a “kid”, leaving viewers at home wondering how old the character is supposed to be.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer wrote: “He’s acting like a teenager but looks like he’s 45 with two kids and a wife? I’m more confused than usual.”

Another fan commented: “I don’t understand how old Ryder is supposed to be.” A third person asked: “May I ask how old Ryder is meant to be?”

Although the BBC soap has not officially confirmed Ryder’s age, the character is portrayed as being in his 20s. Meanwhile, actor Felix Uff was born in 1994, making him around 32 years old in 2026.

EastEnders is Felix Uff’s biggest role to date, but he has also appeared in several other shows, including Outlander, The Hunting Party, Witches of Essex, FBI: International and Too Much.

Speaking about joining the soap, Felix previously said: “EastEnders is a staple of British culture and it’s a real privilege to join the cast. I can’t wait for everyone to see the Hawkins family shaking things up!”

During Monday’s (October 12) episode, Ryder’s former football coach arrived in the Square to see him. It was later revealed that Ned had contacted him, as he wants to give his son a sense of purpose in life.

The football coach offered Ryder a coaching job, an opportunity arranged by Ned. However, Ryder was hesitant to take the offer after his former teammate Kit experienced homophobic abuse while playing the sport.

As the storyline unfolds, Ned’s attempts to suppress Ryder’s true identity are beginning to take a toll on him. But how far will Ned go to turn Ryder into the son he believes he should be?

Previously, executive producer Ben Wadey teased what the Hawkins family would bring to EastEnders, saying: “The Hawkins family are a fantastic addition to Walford.

“While the family share a fierce loyalty to one another, decades of complicated history and Nicola’s estrangement from them has left fractures within the family that are far from healed. We’re all very excited for what we have planned for the family.”
