Ellie Leach, who won Strictly Come Dancing in 2023, has opened up about her experience on the show.
Strictly Come Dancing winner Ellie Leach has shared some encouraging advice for this year’s contestants, while reminding them that they must give the competition their very best effort. The former Coronation Street actress lifted the Glitterball Trophy in 2023 alongside her professional dance partner, Vito Coppola.
This year, celebrities including Delta Goodrem, Lacey Turner and Will Best are hoping to follow in Ellie’s footsteps. With the second elimination approaching this weekend, Chris Appleton and his professional partner, Amy Dowden, have already become the first couple to leave the competition.
Looking back on her own Strictly experience, Ellie revealed what advice she would give her younger self. She explained: “The advice that I would give myself throughout the whole series really is to cherish every moment because it goes so fast. Once that launch show is on, it’s like boom you’re in it, it goes so quick. So it would just be to cherish every moment.”
Ellie went on to explain that there was no secret shortcut to winning the competition, emphasising the importance of dedication and effort. She said: “I think if you put in the hard work, you’re going to see that rewarded.
“It’s one of those things where you really do have to put your all into it. There’s no point in being like, ‘It’s alright, it’ll work itself out,’ I think you do really have to work hard if you want to succeed and do yourself proud,” reports Wales Online.
Ellie, who was speaking about her partnership with The Royal Mint as Miss Scarlett for the new Cluedo 50p coin collection, also reflected on how her life changed after appearing on Strictly Come Dancing. Despite spending more than a decade playing Faye Windass on Coronation Street, she explained that the dance competition allowed viewers to discover a different side of her.
She said: “It was completely different. People knew me from Corrie but they knew me as a character, and then when I did Strictly, they got to learn my own personality.”

Chris said he felt deeply thankful to everyone who had been part of his Strictly Come Dancing journey. He added: “I am very grateful for everyone who has been involved. It’s been so amazing to be part of something that I grew up watching and got to be a part of it.
“The biggest thing I think I’ll take away from this experience is the friendship I’ve found with Amy. I genuinely love her and feel so lucky to have met someone with so much heart and passion.
“I just wish I could have performed better for her because she deserves to progress further in the competition, but we gave it everything we had.”
