Gary Windass has been a popular character on Coronation Street for many years.

Coronation Street legend Gary Windass could be heading for an exit after a shocking twist confirmed that he is going to prison. Gary, played by Mikey North, first appeared on the ITV soap in 2008.
He arrived on the cobbles alongside the rest of the Windass family, including his mum, Anna, played by Debbie Rush. It didn’t take long for the builder to become a firm favourite with fans and a regular presence on screen.
During his time on the show, Gary has been involved in several major storylines. From his romantic relationships on the cobbles to his battle with PTSD, his life in Weatherfield has been full of drama.
Things have become particularly intense recently after Gary helped Sarah Platt, played by Tina O’Brien, cover up the murder of Theo Silverton, portrayed by James Cartwright. The abuser was killed in April after his reign of terror against Todd Grimshaw, played by Gareth Pierce, was exposed.

It was eventually revealed that Sarah was responsible for Theo’s death, having killed him in self-defence. She was subsequently remanded in custody but assured Gary that she would not tell the police about his involvement in the crime.
However, last week, Sarah’s trial took place, and she was ultimately found not guilty and allowed to walk free, much to her relief and the delight of the Platt family. In Tuesday’s episode (October 20), Gary appeared in court, where a shocking twist confirmed that he had been sentenced to eight months in prison.

An furious Maria, played by Samia Longchambon, confronted Sarah, who was left confused by the outcome. Sarah told Maria that she had not implicated Gary in the crime by revealing his role in moving the murder weapon.
At the end of the episode, Gary was shown in prison, speaking to an emotional Maria over the phone. He then ended the call and walked into his prison cell.

Fans have been left stunned by Gary’s sentencing, with some speculating that the storyline could lead to a temporary exit from the show. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer commented: “Ludicrous, Sarah gets away with it and Gary in prison. Hope he isn’t leaving!”
Another fan shared their thoughts, writing: “I think he will just for a while.” A third person suggested: “He might get released early for good behaviour.”
Agreeing with these predictions, another viewer added: “I thought the same as well.”
